Dirty Rice with Beef and Sausage

I'm not a fan of gizzards of any sort either. Just...eww. I also sometimes am pressed for time so using the prepackaged rice mix helps me out tons. This is a recipe I had found and added to my collection a while ago.

1 pound lean ground beef
1 pound pork sausage (I use mild sage)
1 onion, finely diced
1 clove minced garlic
1 (8 ounce) package dirty rice mix of choice
2 cups water
1 (10 ounce) can Ro-Tel (diced tomatoes with green chile peppers)
2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained (I'm not a fan of kidney beans and used pintos myself)
salt and pepper to taste

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, sausage, garlic and onion; drain.
In a large pan, combine rice mix and 2 cups water. Add Ro-Tel (diced tomatoes and chilies). Stir in the beans. Bring to a boil, then add meat mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Return to boil, reduce heat, and cover, stirring occasionally. Cook for 25 minutes, until rice is easily fluffed with a fork.
